Now in its 6th year, this exciting event for serious amateurs involves a super challenge route of 102 miles. There is a shorter route of 72 miles which is also on offer for those who would not be able to complete the longer stretch within 8 hours or less. Riders leave from Lasswade High School, Bonnyrigg and head south over the Moorfoot Hills to Innerleithen where the long and shorter routes split. The long route now takes a spectacularly scenic route around the borders taking in some 8000ft of climb and the formidable Witchy Knowe. For the shorter route, riders return to Lasswade from Innerleithen via the River Tweed and Gala Water valleys then both routes meet again just west of Selkirk. All riders then return to the High School over the Moorfoot Hills once more. Each participant will be individually timed and the finishing times will be published on the Bethany website after the event. Four feed and water stations will also be on hand offering the riders refreshments along the way.

At the end of the event riders can relax with well-deserved pie and a cuppa!

Many thanks to the 291 riders who registered for the Sportive in 2013. We know that you all had a fantastic day and we thank you for sending us such positive encouraging feedback!

This is a charity event organised by Bethany Christian Trust and all the funds raised from the registration of this event will go to help homeless and vulnerable people throughout Scotland. Sponsor forms are also available for you to raise additional funds through sponsorship if you'd like to help. Every £30 raised provides another homeless person with a warm, safe bed for the night, a hot meal and good advice. Enquiries regarding the event should be made to the Event Organiser: Hannah Biddulph (details below)

There are 50 free spaces for riders who can raise £100 in sponsorship! Please email Laurie BEFORE you sign up through Entry Central if you would like to register for a FREE sponsored place: sportive@bethanychristiantrust.com

The Bethany Sportive is run by Bethany Christian Trust (a Scottish Homeless Charity based in Edinburgh). The Sportive aims to raise as much money as possible for the trust so each year this event is run by a small army of 50 volunteers. We would love you to be involved and volunteer for the 2014 Sportive so do get in touch if you fancy it or you know someone who'd love to be part of an exciting day doing good for a worthwhile cause.  Three cheers for our amazing team of 49 volunteers who were there this year from start to finish registering cyclists, timing marshals, handing out refreshments, putting up signs over the full course, taking signs down, baking cakes, providing first-aid cover, taking photographs, monitoring the route in safety vehicles and on motorbikes and marshalling throughout the course.

Perhaps you heard about our event over the airwaves as live updates were broadcast this year on Black Diamond, local radio station! Maybe you've read about us in the newly published Harper Collins book 'World's Ultimate Cycling Races'. We were selected to be in the World's top 300 cycles rides so it's onwards and upwards for the Bethany Edinburgh Sportive.

Many thanks to the 291 riders who registered for the Sportive in 2013. We know that you all had a fantastic day and we thank you for sending us such positive encouraging feedback!

Look out for out chief volunteer and route supervisor Tom Stratton who masterminds the overall safety and signage of the entire 102 mile route – no mean feat! He has been hard at work planning the route safety for please click on our routes page to read the description and look at the map. We’d just love you to join us for a great day out.
